Hoverfly Haven is a joyful, pollinator-friendly garden designed to celebrate one of nature’s unsung heroes — the hoverfly. Often mistaken for bees or wasps, these incredible insects are vital for pollination and act as natural pest controllers. The garden is a vibrant, immersive space that offers beauty for people and essential habitat for hoverflies.

This design combines soft, nectar-rich planting with a layered naturalistic structure. Airy umbels, native wildflowers, and flowering herbs provide continuous forage from early summer to late July, with shallow blooms perfect for the hoverfly's short mouthparts. Nestled among the planting are log piles, bare earth, and small water features to offer shelter, breeding spots, and hydration — everything a hoverfly needs to thrive.

Sustainably built with reclaimed materials and a light footprint, Hoverfly Haven also tells a wider story about gardening for wildlife. It demonstrates how even small spaces — from urban balconies to back gardens — can become vital sanctuaries that support biodiversity and reconnect us with nature.
